In September 2000 the B.A.R. celebrated its tenth anniversary.
BAR was formally the only region of the GWOCGB’s to be formed in mainland Europe on August 20th 1990 and under
the joint agreement of the G.W.O.C.G.B. and G.W.C.CH. – (GoldWing Club Switzerland) and GWEF committee’s. started its journey.

As from January 2008 the BAR parted company with the GWOCGB to continue as a separate entity.

The reason for the formation of this region was brought about by a few British ex-pats that live abroad, in and around the Swiss Alps who wished to maintain a connection with their mother club. To have a recognised region and meeting place for all members. Hence the name British Alpine Region.  It has been suggested that the abbreviated name B.A.R. refers to a certain section of the regional membership always being found around the watering holes at national and international events! This dear reader I can assure you is completely true!

Our multicoloured regional patch with the famous "Lady of the Mountain"
is available for ten/10 Swiss francs if you’re interested!
The Patch is in the shape of a shield, it stands 10cms high an 8cms wide
with Gold and Red trim. The background is Sky-Blue with the words
"British Alpine Region" at the top.
There is a background view of the Alps with snow-capped mountain
and Green landscape parted by the sea in Blue.
Crossing the sea and joining the two landscapes
is a bridge with a Red GoldWing upon it going from left to right.
The two pillars of the bridge are a British and a Swiss flag in their original colours.
The story behind the patch and the "Lady of the Mountain",
if you haven’t already sussed it,
is when the logo was first created the snow line
on the mountain range was a typical
"Virgin Snow Line".
However "after a lot of inspection", you will discover a
"Lady of the Mountain".

For patch collectors out there both the
"Virgin" and "Lady" versions are still available.

The objects of the BAR is  to promote international contact, friendship,
activities and information exchange between all motorcyclists.
There are no rules or regulations, constitutions, nor will you find someone waving a red flag or imposing a club style of politics upon you. The aim is to enjoy life, ride open and free and to broaden your horizons and give you the chance to experience the Alps and improve your riding skills amoungs other riders with the same ideals.
